Economic crisis a 'reality check'

The Archbishop of Canterbury has called the current financial crisis a reality check to a society driven by unsustainable consumption. Which would be nice if we did wake up to that. At the moment though our solutions are turning a blind eye to greed and overconsumption and the only way out it seems is to dig a deeper hole.

Anyway all credit to the Archbishop for hitting the nail squarely on the head on this one. Among his good quotes is this one:

"It is a sort of reality check, isn't it, which is always good for us. A reminder that what I think some people have called fairy gold is just that - that sooner or later you have to ask 'what are we making or what are assembling or accumulating wealth for?'"
