Our economic system is stupid


I read this visual guide to deflation over at Mint and the bottom line is this, we need to keep spending money on stuff we don't need. Simply consuming what we need to live and get trhough our days simply isn't enough anymore. Yes food shopping is consuming and all the rest of it, but that's NOT what anyone is talking about here. We need to consume more stuff to avoid financial collapse. You must buy a new car, house, TV, wardrobe even though what you have is fine. Bottom line for me is that we've created a financial system that neds us to invest in treasures on earth. Jesus calls me to place my treasures elsewhere. (Matt 6:19-24)

Crazy! I guess its what you'd expect a society that thinks treasure is all here to do. Question is what's the alternative to this kind of system?

No question a shift at this stage would be incredibly painful, but already people are thinking about zero growth economies, including advisory bodies to the government. Have a look at:
