Church Planting

I lead a church that was started out just over 5 years ago. I'm in favour of starting new churches. Not everyone else is and the arguments are similar and familiar.

Ian thinks it is more empire building than mission in some places but not others and his concerns are similar to the ones raised here by Jon. His brother Dave argues back with some force here

Tim Chester also believes in church planting and has recently finished a whole series of posts on the subject and also believes apostolic leadership is necessary in a not too dissimilar way to Newfrontiers

Here are some blogs of people currently getting in on the adventure that is church planting: Sean and Amsterdam; David and Belfast; Andy in Kings Lynn;

Well, I think there's a good case to be made for new wine, new wineskin. There are good churches, but there are so many other important factors - vision, leadership, theology on certain issues all of which count for something. However the main thing is, that most organisations think they have a distinctive, a unique contribution - I don't think that's bad, so there is a case that we want another NF church, but probably not for empire but because we think we bring something fresh to the table. What needs to better argued is that this is a good thing for the wider body of Christ not a bad thing and I don't think we're very good at that...
